Choreography development - post draft performance

After reviewing my feedback and watching my performance back of my draft. I started to develop ideas for what I’d like to change. Being aware of the time I have left I feel I am not being overly ambitious to make these changes which I will explain in this blog.

The first section I feel had some impact but as it was created close to the draft performance I felt that some movements didn’t correlate to the style I have curated for this piece so I want to make adjustments to create a crescendo effect whilst blending with the style of the piece.

The bigger change comes in the second half of my piece. I have decided to rework this by taking away my shortest section which I’d labeled ‘fever’ and move my final section forward which will help explain my storyline development. I will then end with a new section to a new song which I recently found and have been profoundly inspired by as it really encapsulates the feelings of frustration and anger that follow the trauma my character has faced.

To explain the updated version of my story-line, it begins with the prologue style section where the compilation of female empowerment speeches guide my movement climaxing to a stop where I bring the character to life on the line ‘me to’. This then leads into my second section which follows her through a club/party/social setting where she develops a self consciousness and she understands the dangers around her in contrast to her trying to be free and enjoy herself. This ends with the drinking a spiked drink and being followed, inspired by my own story and what happens to her is up to audience perception. She finds her way to the police station in section three where I have choreographed a seated phrase inspired by Anne Theresa de Keersmaeker. This section ends with disappointment as she is sent away. My final section expresses how disappointment turns into frustration and self-hatred which manifests into anger at the world and at the Fear Women Feel to survive.
