Personal review and reflection - pre performance
Approaching the final performance/assessment of my choreography I will now reflect on my work. I feel after establishing a solid base of structure and movement I was able to fine-tune my choreography to improve the flow and to express my character's emotions better which I explained in detail in my final development blog (blog 8).
Looking back at the criteria for this module, I feel I have developed an understanding of my chosen choreographer, Anne Theresa de Keersmaeker and I have shown how she inspired me through my work by reviewing and evaluating her pieces Rain and Rosas Danst Rosas. Through my sources of inspiration conjoined with my own personal journey I have been able to create a ten minute solo piece that expresses my message.
After making the changes after my draft I decided that the beginning section wasn’t working for me anymore so I decided to take a simpler spoken message that builds into the next section rather than overshadowing it. In this I am showing a ‘getting ready’ scene where the character paints on a smile and covers herself in her jacket ready to take on the day. I feel this is a good way to begin my piece and allow the audience to be on the journey with the character.
By applying the feedback I have been given throughout this time I have been able to adjust and refine my work so that I am presenting a clear narrative. I am looking forward to the final presentation of my work and feel it hope it is impactful to the viewer as that has been my intention for this project.
